Our technique class is suitable for everyone from beginners to experienced dancers. If you are a beginner, we strongly recommend that you do at least a month of classes before joining this class but if you have any questions, please contact us. We devote a whole class to technique because good technique:
helps to make us better dancers
makes it easier to learn steps
helps to prevent injuries
allows us to enjoy the dance more
makes us more enjoyable to dance with.
We focus on the fundamentals of tango during this class and work on the essential things that will improve our tango as a whole but don’t take our word for it – come along and find out for yourself!
Improver Level Class
This class is not suitable for beginners or anyone who is not yet comfortable with the technique class. Each month, we take a “deep dive” approach to a step, learning how it works, how to vary it and how and when to use it socially and rhythmically. We start gently each month but quickly push our students to improve not just their dance vocabulary but also the quality of movement in each step. As we learn progressively over the course of the month, it’s best to attend as much of the month as you can for continuity of your learning but don’t worry if you miss the odd week.
Frequently Asked Questions
We are often asked these questions from our new students.
Do I need a partner?
You can come by yourself, with a partner, or bring a whole bunch of friends. The more the merrier!
Can I join if I have no experience?
Yes, of course! Our beginners lessons are made exactly for people with no dance experience. Everybody is in the same boat, so come and enjoy and have fun.
Do we change partners?
Yes, we change partners often. This is beneficial because you will learn more quickly and it’s a great way to meet new people. On the other hand, if you prefer to stay with your partner, that’s absolutely no problem!
What is the class like?
Our classes are friendly and enjoyable. We take pride in providing quality teaching that’s still fun! Our lessons are tailored around you and your progress, so we deliver a lesson each week that helps you learn in an enjoyable way. We put a lot of work into planning our lessons, so you will continue to progress in a warm and welcoming environment.
Is this class for me?
Our class is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. If you’re curious, want to meet people, make new friends and learn something new, then this class is for you.
What do I wear to class?
Dress comfortably in clothes that allow you freedom of movement.
Do I need special shoes?
The best thing to wear are leather-soled shoes so you can pivot. You’ll have a hard time pivoting in rubber-soled shoes, boots, sandals and trainers – but you can try! Ladies will find it more comfortable to wear shoes with a low heel.
I already took some tango lessons, which class should I join?
It is best to contact us so we can assess and make a recommendation.
When do your sessions start? What if I miss a lesson?
In the beginners class, we cover a different topic each class, so you can start with us at any time. If you miss a class, you can catch up when we cover the same topic the following month.
